Ta-da! Just like yesterday, Chubby mom’s special correspondent is back again... and again!!! And again!!!! (on an endless loop...)
Today, I’ll be reviewing one of the souvenirs I picked up during my recent trip to Japan!
And the star of the show is... drumroll please... Seaweed Furikake (Nori Furikake) with Bonito Flavor!
It’s made with Japanese seaweed, and true to its name, this furikake is packed with seaweed.
Alright then, follow along as I introduce it to you!

First, a quick overview of the Seaweed (Nori) Furikake!
Nori Furikake (Seaweed Furikake – Bonito Flavor)
- Where I bought it: A rest stop in Hokkaido, Japan
- Price: Sorry... I honestly don’t remember 😭 I paid in cash and didn’t keep the receipt
- Contents: Furikake (seasoning to sprinkle over rice) – sesame seeds (coated with wasabi powder), seaweed, and bonito flakes
- Net weight: 35g per pack
- Calories: 130.6 kcal (per 35g pack)
- Flavor profile: Savory and salty, rich seaweed flavor, with the umami of bonito flakes
- How to enjoy it: Sprinkle over rice, use it in rice balls (onigiri), or when making inari sushi
The Nori (Seaweed) Furikake definitely lives up to its name — as you can see in the photo below, it’s loaded with seaweed. It looks like seaweed makes up about 80% of the mix, and it's made with Japanese seaweed, too!
This product was purchased by Chubby mom’s family during our trip to Hokkaido in June, at a rest stop along the way. Chubby mom specifically picked this one out, saying it’d be perfect as a side dish for dad’s rice!
But since she bought it alone at the rest stop and paid in cash... the price is sadly lost to time 😭 No receipt either...

On the back of the package, all the important info is clearly listed — how to eat it, ingredient list, expiration date, and calorie information. It contains seaweed, bonito flakes, sesame seeds, and more.
The calorie count is 130 kcal per 35g pack, which is actually lower than the “Mom’s Furikake” I introduced just before this one!
And as for Chubby mom’s family’s personal opinion?
We all think this seaweed furikake tastes better than Mom’s Furikake!

Mom’s Furikake had a lot of sesame seeds in it, and they seemed to be coated in something like sugar or syrup, so it tasted quite sweet.
But this seaweed furikake is much less sweet, more savory and clean-tasting, and you can really enjoy the flavor of the bonito flakes and the richness of the seaweed.
If you're curious about my previous review of Mom’s Furikake, check out the link below!

Ta-da! Your favorite correspondent from Chubby mom’s house is back again…As always, I'm here to review one of the souvenirs I picked up during my last trip to Japan!!And today’s star is... Mom’s Furikake (Kasan no Furikake) — the Wasabi flavor, n

Also, at the top of the package, there’s a clear tear line so you know exactly where to open it. It’s resealable, too, so you can open and close it again for easy storage.
As expected, just grab the marked edge and pull — it tears open smoothly without any hassle!

Following the tear line, I pulled it open slowly... and as expected from a seaweed furikake, the inside is really dark — it’s packed with seaweed!
And here and there, you can spot some bonito flakes mixed in too!

Ta-da! Here’s what it looks like when poured into a bowl! Compared to Mom’s Furikake from last time, you can clearly see a lot more seaweed and bonito flakes.
With Mom’s Furikake, there were way more sesame seeds when poured out.
And as you can see in the close-up photo below, the sesame seeds are coated with wasabi powder, giving it a slight wasabi kick in the flavor.

Even when eaten on its own, this furikake was less salty and less sweet compared to Mom’s Furikake. It felt more mild, with a fresh ocean-like flavor that made it really tasty!
This time, I decided to use the seaweed furikake to make rice balls… I just took some rice and rolled it right into the furikake like this…

Ta-da!! Here’s the furikake-coated rice ball after rolling it around~~~
Thanks to all that seaweed, the rice ball turned nice and dark!
But wow, it looks so delicious...

Making just one rice ball felt lonely, so I made several to keep it company… (Really, not because I was hungry or anything 😏)
When taking photos, it’s definitely better to have a group shot so no one feels lonely!
Eating the rice balls alongside plain rice, it’s exactly what you want in a side dish — a true rice thief!
It’s perfectly salty, with the flavors of seaweed and bonito flakes, plus a slight wasabi kick that makes the rice super tasty!
And honestly, you don’t even have to make rice balls — just sprinkle it over plain rice and it’s delicious either way!

Ta-da! While Mom’s Furikake was delicious, this one definitely wins in my book!
If you want to enjoy a rich seaweed flavor, savory bonito flakes, and a hint of wasabi kick, this is the furikake to try!
I highly recommend giving it a shot!

And with that, I’ll wrap up today’s post.
I hope this review helps anyone planning a trip to Japan or interested in Japanese products...
That’s all for now — see you next time!
