Wow... So today… I picked up a random lip balm at Don Quijote in Sapporo, Hokkaido, without thinking twice. It was just sitting by the checkout counter, and I didn’t bring any lip balm with me on this trip, so I grabbed it without any expectations whatsoever…

 

And now… I'm about to start a review of what turned out to be the BEST lip balm ever—no joke. (Shocking, truly shocking) 😭

 

This is the story of a clueless fool (me) who’s now seriously regretting not buying more… (sobs)

Even before I start… I’m already feeling the regret. Ugh. I really should’ve bought more of these. Honestly, I mean it. (Deep breaths...) Okay, okay. Let me calm down and actually tell the story...

So! A couple of weeks ago (wow, it's already been that long…), my family and I went on a trip to Hokkaido, Japan. Like any good tourist, we of course made our way to the biggest Mega Don Quijote in Sapporo for some serious shopping.

 

We were piling up on all the good stuff—supplements, snacks, jelly candies, cheese, you name it—and finally got in line to check out. Right next to the cashier, there was a DHC lip cream sitting there like it had been abandoned, just tossed there without a second thought.

 

My first thought?
“Is this here because no one’s buying it? Are they just hoping some tourist will see it and impulsively grab one?”

That kind of vibe.

Then I suddenly remembered—oh right, my lip balm was almost gone. And I still had a good chunk of yen left over from the exchange… So, I casually tossed one into the cart without thinking too much about it, paid for everything, and off we all went back to the hotel without a second thought.

So, two days after coming back to Korea, I finally opened that lip cream!!!
I thought, “Hmm, should I try it out?” and the moment I put it on…!!

 

WHAT IS THIS?!

This texture—so firm and solid, yet somehow spreads so smoothly and thinly across the lips!

 

The balm itself didn’t smush or break down at all. It held its shape perfectly, staying neat and clean the whole time. And on my lips? No clumps, no weird residue, nothing gross—just smooth, even application.

Plus, even though it goes on in a thin layer, it gives this subtle shine and keeps my lips super moisturized. Seriously, 10/10 hydration.

Seriously… this was amazing.

My daughter has always been a huge fan of the Carmex lip balm from Olive Young—her all-time favorite. But after trying the DHC lip cream… she totally changed her mind. 😲

 

From that day on, Carmex had to give up its crown to DHC.

(Carmex: “I admit defeat... ugh…")
(Of course, this is all personal preference 😅 but for my daughter, it was such a shock—it was love at first swipe 💘💥)

I honestly had zero expectations—I just put it on without thinking, and it totally blew me away. I was so shocked that I didn’t even get a chance to take a photo of the unboxing or the packaging. 😭

 

At first, I wasn’t even planning to write a review. I thought I’d just quietly use it on my own… but no. This couldn’t just be kept to myself.   I had to write a review. This stuff is too good not to share!! 💥🔥

At Don Quijote in Japan, this lip cream was only 439 yen—which is about 4,400 KRW.

But when I checked online to see how much it would cost in Korea…  😱 With shipping included, it came out to nearly 10,000 KRW!!!   Gasp.

Now that I think about it… maybe that’s why they put it right next to the checkout counter—because it is actually a popular item? 😭

I’m only regretting it now…   The scent is honestly kind of like medicine cream, which is a bit off-putting, but everything else is absolutely perfect!!   This really feels like a fantastic gift item!

 

The case is actually a lighter color than in the photos—kind of like a pale skin-tone crayon color? The cap snaps on super securely, and opens with a satisfying pop! It feels really sturdy, like it won’t break easily at all.

Can you see it? Even just from the photo, doesn’t it look like the texture is pretty firm? (Say yes, please!!)
It’s like a solid highlighter stick—that kind of firm texture!  The case is actually slimmer than I expected. It’s even thinner than my middle finger, like you can see in the photo below! So it feels small, sleek, and really pretty.

 

To make sure the lip balm stands out, I laid it on a dark towel for the shoot today—doing my best to get a good shot! (Trying hard over here…)

If you twist the lip cream all the way up, this is how much you get! Just a heads-up!  It might look small, but because it’s firm and spreads so thinly and smoothly… it feels like it’ll last a long time!

I tried getting some close-up shots to really show how firm the texture is… hoping you can feel the firmness through the photos (working hard here!).

 

Seriously, it’s not soft or mushy at all—it’s solid and super sturdy.

To show the subtle shine, I tried applying it on the back of my hand! (Skipping lip photos because mine aren’t the best 😅)

 

In the first photo below, my hand is bare with nothing on it. In the second photo, I applied the lip cream right in the center of my hand.

I’m not sure if this comes across well in the photos, but it really spreads so thinly and evenly (like, seriously thin layers…) with a subtle shine that makes your lips look classy and elegant! (All prim and proper 😏)

I was amazed by both the texture and the effect… I seriously love it so much!!

 

Below is how the lip cream looks after I applied it to the back of my hand. Even though I pressed down pretty firmly while applying, there wasn’t a single bit of clumping or smudging at all!!!

This is such a highly recommended item!!

But… after checking online again, I realized everyone who’s “in the know” has already been using this like crazy… (frog in the well moment... sniffle)

 

Still, I’m just glad I found out now, and getting it cheap in Japan was such a lucky win!! Every time I go to Japan from now on, I’m definitely buying this without fail—promise!

 

So, after discovering yet another holy grail lip balm, I’m super excited (totally buzzing) to share this DHC Lip Cream review today.  As for Carmex… it can take a break for a while… 😏
