After a long time, Chubby mom’s family’s correspondent is back with the “Three Meals a Day” corner! Today, Chubby mom’s daughter is going to introduce another great restaurant in Yongsan that she recently visited with her friends.
The restaurant of the day is none other than Malbang Gukbap!
With such a cute name, this place serves its signature dish Malbang Gukbap, as well as Korean Beef Yukhoe Bibimbap, Korean Beef Cold Raw Soup (Mulhoe), Yuk Sashimi, and Yukhoe (seasoned raw beef). This time, Chubby mom’s daughter decided to try the Korean Beef Yukhoe Bibimbap! Now, let’s hear how it was.

Location of Malbang Gukbap in Yongsan

Malbang Gukbap is located in Yongsan, Seoul — just a short walk from Exit 3 of Samgakji Station. The restaurant was so crowded that I couldn’t take photos of the exterior or interior. Inside, it’s quite different from a typical gukbap (rice soup) place: it’s modern, spacious, clean, and efficiently run, with a very fast table turnover. There are no private rooms inside. Malbang Gukbap sits at the far end of Yongridan-gil, and you can check the maps on each website below for exact directions!

Malbang Gukbap Menu & Prices (Yongsan)

At Malbang Gukbap, the main lunch dishes include their signature Hanwoo Malbang Gukbap, Yukhoe Bibimbap (Beef Tartare Bibimbap), and 2+ Grade Hanwoo Yukhoe (Premium Beef Tartare). For side dishes, they offer Special Lunch Yuk Sashimi (Raw Beef Slices), Yukhoe, and Tteok Gui (Grilled Rice Cake).
- Hanwoo Malbang Gukbap — 12,000 KRW
- Yukhoe Bibimbap — 16,000 KRW
- 2+ Hanwoo Mulhoe (Cold Raw Beef Soup) — 17,000 KRW
The prices are not cheap, but that’s understandable since every dish contains premium Hanwoo (Korean beef).
For a la carte dishes, as shown in the photo above, they offer: Yangji Beef Wraps, Hanwoo Yukhoe, Hanwoo Mungtigi, Hanwoo Suyuk (Boiled Beef), Hanwoo Cow Head Suyuk, Yangji Odreki (Boiled Beef Slices), Charcoal Grilled Makchang Sundae, and Hanwoo Jjageuli Hotpot, with prices ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 KRW.

Malbang Gukbap thoughtfully provides a guide on how to enjoy each dish, with a small instruction board placed on every table — such a nice touch! Also, as shown in the photo above, they’re currently running a review event — if you write a review, you’ll receive a Chalbori Bread (barley cake) as a gift! Give it a try if you visit. As for Chubby mom’s daughter and her friends, they were too full (and a bit too lazy) to join the review event this time.
Malbang Gukbap Basic Side Dishes

When you order a meal at Malbang Gukbap, you’ll receive four basic side dishes as shown in the photo above: pumpkin salad, white kimchi, salted seafood (jeotgal), and radish kimchi. Among them, the radish kimchi was especially delicious — it was thinly sliced, not thick, so it was very easy to eat.
Also, while the Malbang Gukbap doesn’t come with it, if you order the Yukhoe Bibimbap, they’ll serve an additional bowl of beef bone broth (sagol soup) like in the photo above.
Yukhoe Bibimbap and Grilled Rice Cake Review

The dish that Chubby Mom’s daughter ordered was the Yukhoe Bibimbap (Raw Beef Bibimbap). As expected, the yukhoe is made with premium Korean beef (Hanwoo), and inside it contains Malbang Gukbap’s signature secret spicy sauce (yak-gochujang), which they make themselves. The vegetables include lettuce, sprouts, and perilla leaves, topped with seaweed flakes and a raw egg yolk in the center.
Just a tip — depending on your taste, the special gochujang sauce might feel a little salty. So it’s recommended to scoop out a bit of the sauce before mixing the rice, then taste it after mixing and add more sauce as needed.

Seeing the bright yellow egg yolk, Chubby Mom’s daughter couldn’t resist breaking it right away. She popped the yolk and mixed all the rice together immediately. One small regret, though — she should have scooped out some of the spicy sauce first and added it later, but instead she mixed it all in at once, which made it a bit salty for her taste.
Aside from that, it was really delicious, with plenty of fresh vegetables. If it feels a little dry, you can pour in some of the beef bone broth that comes with the dish and mix it well — that makes it even better!

After mixing everything well and taking a bite… the raw beef (yukhoe) was fresh and delicious, with no off smell or taste at all. Chubby Mom’s daughter was especially happy because the dish was packed with her favorite vegetables and sprouts — she was very satisfied! Of course, she finished every last bite again that day.
Below is the tteok-gui (grilled rice cakes) that they ordered to share with colleagues! It’s pretty simple — thinly flattened white rice cakes, grilled until golden brown, served with honey. Be careful, though, because if you don’t eat them right away, they cool down and get hard quickly!

Today, I introduced another great restaurant in Yongsan — Malbang Gukbap. If you’re looking for a Korean food spot in Yongridan-gil, it’s definitely worth a visit! Just keep in mind that it’s quite popular, so there might be a bit of a wait.
That wraps up today’s post.
That’s all… Bye!

Oh, and one more thing!
