Ta-da! Chubby mom’s family reporter is back again with the “Three Meals a Day” corner, and today, we’re going to introduce another great restaurant. This time, it’s an eel restaurant near Samgakji Station—Dolpanjang! They serve both salt-grilled and marinated grilled eel, and they also offer a unique eel sushi on their menu. Of course, they have other dishes too, but we went to taste their signature grilled eel. Now, let’s get into our review!

Below is a convenient table of contents that lets you jump directly to the section you want—please use it as a reference!

Dolpanjang Exterior

Dolpanjang looks like a house from the outside. It seems the place was originally a home that has been remodeled into a restaurant, and they’ve made really good use of the space. As you can see on the map, Dolpanjang is surrounded by I’PARK apartments and residential houses.
Although it looks like an old house on the outside, the inside is beautifully and stylishly decorated, which I really liked. There are tables on both the first and second floors for guests. On the first floor, as shown in the photo above, they even extended the space outward with glass walls to make more room. That’s exactly where Chubby mom and her friends enjoyed their grilled eel.

The entrance, as seen from outside, looks like this. Just like in the photo, both the floor and the walls have been beautifully redone. The very first impression you get when you arrive at the restaurant is, “Wow! It’s pretty.”
Dolpanjang Interior

Since Chubby mom’s daughter and friends sat in the glass-enclosed extension on the first floor, they didn’t really take photos of the inside. Still, the interior was so stylish and pretty that you could almost say the whole building felt newly built. I think women would especially love it… And as you can see in the photo above, the glass extension area also has a thoughtfully designed canopy overhead.
Dolpanjang Menu and Prices

Once seated, you’re given a beautifully designed menu. As shown in the photo, the main dishes here are Dolpan grilled eel with salt and with sauce. Both are priced the same at 25,000 won per serving. Chubby mom’s daughter and friends ordered two servings of the salted version and two servings of the sauced version. I remember eel being more expensive before, so at 25,000 won per serving, it felt pretty affordable.

On the back of the menu, there are additional dishes such as Jeonbok hangjeongbo ssam (abalone wrap), eel sushi, stir-fried minari and roe, spicy eel stew, eel soybean paste rice, makguksu (buckwheat noodles), roe rice, and fried rice, along with a variety of alcoholic beverages. On the very last page, you’ll find items available for takeout—both the grilled eel and eel sushi can be packed to go.
Basic Side Dishes and Review of Grilled Eel & Eel Sushi

As shown in the photo above, the basic side dishes include about four items, along with leafy vegetables for wraps and individual sauce bowls. The personal sauces include soy sauce, wasabi, and a mixture of salt, sesame seeds, and pepper. All the side dishes were delicious and paired perfectly with the grilled eel. The aged kimchi was especially tasty. While enjoying the side dishes… finally, the salt-grilled eel made its appearance!

The eel was really sizzling on the stone plate when it arrived, and underneath the plump eel were king oyster mushrooms, onions, shiitake mushrooms, and chives. The sound was incredible, and the rising steam made it look even more appetizing. Next came the marinated grilled eel… just like the salt-grilled version, it appeared red and sizzling with steam rising from the plate.
The marinated eel was generously coated with red sauce. Beneath it, just like the salt-grilled eel, were shiitake mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms, chives, and onions—but unlike the salt-grilled version, it also included potatoes.

The marinated eel looked bright red, but it wasn’t overly spicy—just a mildly spicy level. Both the salt-grilled and marinated eel were incredibly delicious, and the eel itself was plump and meaty. According to the menu, Dolpanjang uses natural sea eel. It was truly delicious.
Next, we ordered some eel sushi! When it arrived, Chubby mom’s daughter was a bit surprised because it looked quite different from what she had expected—almost like a large rice ball in size. The outside was torched over a flame, which made it really tasty! The eel sushi is priced at 9,000 won for four pieces and 17,000 won for eight pieces.

Chubby mom’s daughter and friends stopped at just the eel sushi, but the menu also offers Dolpan fried rice and spicy eel stew, so if you decide to order more, you can really enjoy a hearty eel feast. And especially, the grilled eel comes highly recommended.
So, that’s another great restaurant recommendation from us, and we’ll wrap up today’s post here.
That’s it… Bye!!
