Back again as Chubby Mom’s family correspondent! Today, I’m going to review a restaurant I recently visited after a long time. At Yongsan Gyukatsu Jeong, you can enjoy juicy gyukatsu grilled right on your own little personal charcoal grill. It’s not only delicious but also known for its warm hospitality. Let me introduce this gem to you!

Yongsan Gyukatsu-Jeong Location and Popularity
Yongsan Gyukatsu-Jeong is part of a chain with several branches across Seoul. Before visiting, Chubby mom’s daughter didn’t realize it was a franchise, but after searching, she found out there are multiple locations such as Daehakro and Gwanghwamun. It seems like the place is already quite famous—maybe she was the only one who didn’t know!
The Yongsan branch is closest to Exit 3 of Samgakji Station. Chubby mom’s daughter took Exit 1, turned at Woori Bank, and walked straight down the road instead. Note that Gyukatsu-Jeong isn’t located on the main street, but rather in a small alley, so make sure to look carefully!
Below is the map of Yongsan Gyukatsu-Jeong for reference.

The restaurant is extremely popular, so if you arrive even a little late during lunchtime, it’s hard to get a seat and you’ll have to wait. Chubby mom’s daughter went with some friends, and luckily, one of them had already heard about Gyukatsu-Jeong’s reputation and suggested going early.
Thanks to that, they barely managed to get a table. Even when they arrived, there were already a few people lining up outside. Since reservations aren’t available except for maybe one or two four-person tables, anyone planning to visit should definitely go early!
Gyukatsu-Jeong Menu and Prices
At the Yongsan branch of Gyukatsu-Jeong, the very friendly staff first check the number of people in your party and whether you have a reservation, then guide you to your table. Immediately to the right of the entrance, there’s a kiosk where you need to select and pay for your meal before sitting down at the assigned seat.
The menu includes Gyukatsu Set, Gyukatsu Tamago-Tendon Set, Gyukatsu Curry Set, and their respective Jumbo versions (larger portions), as well as Maze Tamago-Tendon. Among these, the most popular dishes are the Gyukatsu Set and the Gyukatsu Tamago-Tendon Set. “Tamago-Tendon” means egg tempura rice bowl, which is why the kiosk even describes it as “egg rice bowl.”
As for prices :
- Maze Tamago-Tendon → 13,000 KRW (the most affordable)
- Gyukatsu Set → 15,000 KRW
- Gyukatsu Tamago-Tendon Set → 16,000 KRW
- Gyukatsu Curry Set → 17,000 KRW (the priciest)
The Jumbo versions are basically larger “double” portions, and you just add 7,000 KRW on top of the base menu price.

Trying the Gyukatsu Set and Gyukatsu Tamago-Tendon Set
As mentioned above, Gyukatsu-Jeong offers four main dishes, but I and my friends chose the two most popular ones: the Gyukatsu Set and the Gyukatsu Tamago-Tendon Set. The Tamago-Tendon Set, as explained earlier, is essentially a rice bowl topped with a deep-fried egg.
The photo below shows the Gyukatsu Tamago-Tendon Set ordered by my friend. It comes with gyukatsu and the egg rice bowl. As you can see in the picture, the egg is served in a unique fried style with a light drizzle of soy sauce on top. It looked absolutely delicious.

The photo below shows the Gyukatsu Set that I ordered. Unlike the Gyukatsu Tamago-Tendon Set, as you can see, this one doesn’t come with the fried egg rice bowl — it’s served with just plain rice. Being someone with a big appetite, I couldn’t help but regret not ordering the Tamago-Tendon Set after seeing how delicious it looked…
Still, I enjoyed the most classic and popular option this time, the standard Gyukatsu Set, and promised myself that next time I visit, I’ll definitely try the Tamago-Tendon Set!

The gyukatsu comes breaded and fried on the outside like tonkatsu, but the inside is left rare. The marbling on the beef, arranged in fine streaks, looked both appetizing and fascinating. Instead of eating it straight away, you cook the rare portion yourself on the small personal grill set at each table.

The photo below shows the personal mini grill provided at each table. The top of the grill is well-oiled, and when customers are seated, staff come over to light the fire. Interestingly, the amount of fuel in the grill is just enough to cook all the gyukatsu perfectly; if the fire happens to go out before finishing, you can simply call a staff member for assistance.

The Chubby Mom's daughter felt a bit sad watching the gyukatsu disappear… She carefully grilled each piece, sometimes putting several on at once when she got hungry, and enjoyed every bite. The best part was that she could cook the meat to her preferred level of doneness, making it even more satisfying.

And the plain steamed rice that came with the meal—along with the side dishes like kimchi and soup—can be refilled for free if each person ordered their own. So Chubby Mom’s daughter and her friends all went ahead and got one refill each lol.

The sauces, as shown in the photo below, included a salty soy sauce and a mustard-colored sauce. Salt was also provided, as you can see in the photo. Chubby Mom’s daughter enjoyed the sauces, but honestly, she preferred just dipping the meat in salt and adding a bit of wasabi on top. It was absolutely delicious!

She was so hungry that she put three pieces of gyukatsu on the grill at a time, grilling and eating them nonstop. Below is a little “grilling appreciation time”… The whole restaurant was filled with the sizzling sounds of everyone grilling their meat—a real sizzle party. Just thinking about it makes you hungry again…

They refilled their rice, placed the freshly grilled gyukatsu on top of the hot rice, ate it, grilled more, and ate again… Truly enjoyed every bite. Of course, it was quite greasy, but the meat was tender, savory, and filling, leaving them completely satisfied and happy.

Impressions and Review of Gyukatsu Jeong
The photo below really captures how delicious Gyukatsu Jeong was. Of course, the reporter from Chubby Mom’s family eats a lot, but even so, the food was genuinely tasty, and the fact that rice and side dishes are free for refills was a huge plus. The popular Gyukatsu Set Menu costs 15,000 KRW—not exactly cheap—but it was worth every penny.
Additionally, the staff were extremely friendly and greeted everyone warmly, which made the meal even more pleasant and comfortable. Although Gyukatsu Jeong Yongsan Branch is very popular and busy, the staff’s kindness exceeded expectations, so there was no reason to worry about inattentive service. For anyone who values friendliness as much as the reporter does, this restaurant would be a perfect choice.
The reporter definitely intends to visit again! Highly recommended as a must-try spot in Yongsan.
