Ta-da! As promised last time, today I’m going to review Patdongdong, the red bean specialty restaurant I visited in Eunpyeong Hanok Village. Patdongdong is located at the far end of the village and serves dishes like barley bibimbap, red bean porridge, and red bean kalguksu. Pat Dongdong Location and Exterior
Pat Dongdong is located at the far end of Eunpyeong Hanok Village in Seoul. Chubby mom and her daughter used a map app like Naver to find their way from the entrance and walked there leisurely. Since Eunpyeong Hanok Village is quite large, it takes a bit of walking to reach the very end, but you can get there in about eight minutes at a brisk pace. It’s the perfect distance to enjoy a nice walk while admiring the hanok houses before your meal!

The exterior of Pat Dongdong looks like the photo below. There is limited parking available in front of the restaurant, as you can see, and the place is quite popular. Chubby mom and her daughter arrived early and were lucky enough to get a seat, but as soon as they sat down, people started lining up and waiting outside… So, if you plan to visit, go early!
Pat Dongdong Menu and Prices
As a red bean specialty restaurant, Pat Dongdong serves dishes like red bean porridge (patjuk), red bean noodles (pat-kalguksu), and shaved ice with red beans (patbingsu). They also offer barley bibimbap and black soybean (seoritae) soy milk noodles. The restaurant even sells bottled seoritae soy milk separately — the flavor was rich, and it seemed like they used a lot of real soybeans, so Chubby mom really wanted to buy some to take home. Review of Red Bean Noodles, Black Soybean Soy Milk Noodles, and Barley Bibimbap
Although it was just the two of them, Chubby Mom and her daughter were both quite hungry—and also curious about the different dishes—so they couldn’t settle for ordering only two. In the end, they decided to go all out and ordered three dishes: Red Bean Noodles (Pat-kalguksu), Black Soybean Soy Milk Noodles (Seoritae Kongguksu), and Barley Bibimbap.
As side dishes, they were served with freshly seasoned kimchi (geotjeori), water kimchi, and soybean paste soup (doenjang-guk). The water kimchi was a bit underwhelming, but the geotjeori seemed freshly mixed, and Chubby Mom’s daughter personally found it delicious!
The photos below are close-up shots of each menu item. The barley bibimbap included fresh sprouts, and the fried egg on top is called a blue egg (cheongran). The restaurant even put up explanatory notes on the walls! The bibimbap comes with gochujang and doenjang sauces mixed in. If you prefer a milder taste, it’s recommended to scoop out some of the sauce before mixing your bibimbap.
Next up was the red bean kalguksu (팥칼국수), which both the mom and daughter were really curious about. They had tried red bean porridge before, but this was their first time having red bean noodles. It was fascinating, with the soup rich and thick with red beans, and the noodles chewy—making it incredibly delicious. The red bean kalguksu wasn’t sweet at all and tasted really good.
Finally, it was time for the black soybean noodle soup (서리태 콩국수)! The mom and daughter are both big fans of soybean noodles, so they couldn’t pass up this special black soybean version. The soup was rich, thick, and creamy, packed with plenty of soybeans, which they really liked. The only minor note was a slightly salty taste in the soybean milk, but otherwise it was very delicious. Each table had sugar and salt available, so you could adjust the seasoning to your own taste.
