“Diddygate” refers to a series of crimes committed by Diddy (also known as Puff Daddy) dating back to the 1990s. The term “Diddygate” takes its name from one of his well-known stage names, Diddy.

The Development of the Diddy Scandal (Diddygate Timeline)
The Diddygate scandal began on November 16, 2023 (U.S. local time) when Puff Daddy’s ex-girlfriend, actress Cassie Ventura, filed a lawsuit against him, accusing him of sexual assault and physical abuse. Just nine days later, on November 25, 2023, another woman came forward, claiming that Puff Daddy had raped her back in 1991 when she was a college student and that he had used drugs during the assault. Cassie Ventura, in particular, stated that she suffered continuous abuse and threats from Diddy between 2016 and 2023.
Later, on March 25, 2024 (U.S. local time), Puff Daddy’s residence was raided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (HSI) on charges including illegal confinement, human trafficking, sexual assault, possession of illegal weapons, drug administration, sexual exploitation, and child rape. During the raid, investigators reportedly found around 1,000 bottles of baby oil, and shocking testimonies surfaced alleging that Puff Daddy had sexually assaulted both men and women of all ages.

The main victims publicly known in the Diddy scandal are his ex-girlfriend, actress Cassie Ventura, and a woman identified under the pseudonym “Jane.” Cassie Ventura claimed that she was sexually assaulted and threatened by Diddy from 2016 to 2023 and filed a lawsuit against him. “Jane” also testified that she had suffered similar abuse from 2017 to 2023.

The judge sentenced Diddy to 50 months (about 4 years and 2 months) in prison, a fine of $500,000, and 5 years of probation. This verdict was reached after considering the testimonies of the victims and Diddy’s past behavior. The victims testified in detail about Diddy’s abuse of power and continuous violence and coercion.
Although Diddy received a 50-month sentence, he had already been detained for 13 months, so his actual prison time is expected to be about 3 years and 1 month. Diddy reportedly plans to appeal the ruling. He is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, and is expected to be transferred to a federal prison in the near future.
The Diddy case has become a significant event that raised social awareness about abuse of power and sexual violence among celebrities.
