Back again with a field report from Chubby mom! This time, I’ll continue sharing the story of our late August domestic trip. It’s Chubby mom’s family’s 4-day, 3-night journey to Boryeong, Daecheon, and Muchangpo in Chungnam Korea — part two of the travel review!
From the mudflat experience we wanted to do again, to delicious local restaurants, the powerful waves of Daecheon Beach, and even the slightly scary sky bike — this is the story of our second day. So, follow along closely!

The Super Fun Mudflat Experience
On the morning of our second day, the first thing I did after waking up was pull open the curtains on the veranda — and I saw that the tide had gone way out. The photo below is the view I captured right from the veranda at that moment.
After a simple meal at Beache Palace, Chubby mom’s family quickly got ready and headed out for the much-anticipated mudflat experience.

When Chubby mom’s family went to Muchangpo, the low tide hours happened to fall between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. — right when the sun was at its strongest. So from home, we prepared carefully with long sleeves, long pants, and wide-brimmed hats to block the sunlight. Looking back, I think that was such a smart move. Thanks to that, we came back with almost no sunburn! If you’re planning a mudflat experience, I highly recommend bringing a wide-brimmed hat that covers even the back of your neck.
As I mentioned in my previous Beache Palace recommendation post, on the first floor of Beache Palace, guests can borrow rubber boots, buckets, and hoes, and even purchase gloves for the mudflat experience. So you don’t need to bring your own special gear — super convenient!
In addition, they also sell comfortable pants, hats, and other clothes on the first floor. So if you didn’t pack suitable clothes for the mudflat, you can simply buy some there. (Even Chubby mom’s son forgot to bring pants, so he bought a pair of loose-fitting mompe pants on the spot!)

Hehe, Chubby mom’s family’s special reporter is back again! Today, as promised, I’m here to share a review of the Beache Palace Hotel (Resort) in Muchangpo, Boryeong, Chungnam. Beache Palace is located right in front of Muchangpo Beach, where you can

Just like in the photo below, Chubby mom’s family bought gloves and rented rubber boots, hoes, and buckets before heading out to the mudflats. By the time we arrived, other tourists were already out there enjoying their own mudflat experiences.

There were puddles of water here and there, and surprisingly, little baby fish were swimming inside them. Chubby mom’s family carefully tiptoed across the mudflats so as not to step on them! Meanwhile, Dad spotted something on the beach that looked like a discarded butterfly net and happily “scored” it — using it to carry canned clams around, haha!

Being originally from Boryeong in Chungnam, Chubby mom eagerly got started digging for clams, her specialty. At first, her son and Dad were a bit indifferent, but soon they got completely hooked too. Before we knew it, everyone was so absorbed in clam digging that we didn’t even notice the tide creeping up right to our feet!

![]() |
Here’s how it looked with the five of us digging clams using just two rented buckets — it was so much fun! Even if it’s your first time digging for clams, anyone can do it. And… it’s no secret that we were having such a blast that we went back for another mudflat experience the very next day!

Another Great Restaurant: Eosim Raw Fish Restaurant
After finishing our mudflat experience, Chubby mom’s family quickly took a shower at Beache Palace and got ready to head out. Our next stop was a famous local restaurant called Eosim Raw Fish Restaurant, located right in front of the Muchangpo beach. The scenery there was absolutely stunning!

Because our mudflat experience ran longer than expected, lunch ended up being quite late. Since we were planning to have raw fish for dinner, we wanted something simple and quick for lunch. Luckily, Eosim Raw Fish Restaurant also serves easy meal options like kalguksu (handmade noodle soup) and hoe-deopbap (raw fish rice bowl). Chubby mom’s family ordered clam kalguksu and hoe-deopbap!
![]() |
![]() |
When you order a meal, they bring four basic side dishes, as shown in the photo below. If you order hoe-deopbap, they also serve clam soup alongside it. The clams were incredibly fresh — probably because they were just caught and cooked — and their meat was plump and full, making the soup even more delicious.

The hoe-deopbap was also incredibly fresh and tasty. With Dad already being a big fan of hoe-deopbap, the beautiful scenery, and Eosim Raw Fish Restaurant being so delicious, it was the perfect combination — he absolutely finished every last bite!

We ordered three servings of kalguksu, and as you can see in the photo below, they brought it in really large, deep bowls, filled to the brim. The portions were generous, the noodles were chewy, and they added plenty of clams — we enjoyed every bite!

Chewy, fresh raw fish and a generous bowl of clam kalguksu — we really, truly enjoyed it! The photos below show just how delicious it was… we completely cleaned our plates. If you’re looking for a great place to eat in Muchangpo, definitely make a stop at Eosim Raw Fish Restaurant.

The Unfortunately Closed Sanghwawon
After our satisfying lunch, we headed to Sanghwawon. This Korean-style traditional garden was created to preserve the natural beauty of Jukdo Island, and its name, Sanghwawon, reflects a reverence for harmony.
We had seen that it’s sometimes used as a filming location for TV variety shows, so we were really looking forward to visiting… only to find the gates firmly closed.

A quick search revealed that Sanghwawon is closed from Monday to Thursday. So if you’re planning to visit, be sure to check the schedule so you don’t end up making the same silly mistake as Chubby mom’s family… Below is a map of Sanghwawon for your reference!

Sky Bike Over the Sea
With a bit of disappointment from missing out on Sanghwawon, we headed straight to the Sky Bike at Daecheon Beach! It’s a famous attraction at the beach, so Chubby mom’s family decided to give it a try. However, her son opted out, saying he was too tired, so the remaining four of us went for the ride.
The price for the Sky Bike was ₩23,000 for 2 adults, ₩28,000 for 3, and ₩33,000 for 4. There are discounted rates for toddlers, children, and Boryeong residents. The ride lasts about 30 minutes round-trip.

Looking at it in photos, it doesn’t seem very high, but in reality, it felt really tall. Seriously… really high. Unlike Muchangpo Beach, the waves and wind at Daecheon Beach were strong, and Chubby mom’s daughter, who’s a bit of a scaredy-cat, felt a little nervous.
![]() |
![]() |
On one side, there was the breakwater, and on the other, just the open sea. With no railing and the strong wind, Chubby mom’s daughter couldn’t help but hold on tightly, worrying about what might happen if she slipped. Meanwhile, everyone else seemed to be fully enjoying the Sky Bike… except her!
![]() |
![]() |
For reference, each Sky Bike has four seats, and every seat has pedals so you can manually pedal to move. However, as you can see in the photo below, the Sky Bike also has an automatic drive system — if you press the accelerator on the floor in the front middle seat, you can ride without pedaling at all!
![]() |
![]() |
At the end of the rail, a large machine rotates the Sky Bike so you can ride back along the same path — making it a round-trip course! The route has both uphill and downhill sections, and on the downhill, the bike picks up speed quickly. You have to carefully use the brakes to maintain a safe distance from the bike in front. Collisions are a big no-no — accidents can happen!
Despite being a little scared, Chubby mom’s daughter made it to the end! She was just nervous, but the views were absolutely stunning.

A Quick Stop at Daecheon Beach Plaza
After finishing the Sky Bike ride, we made a brief stop at the Daecheon Beach Plaza, right next door. The plaza has a fountain, which made the area feel even cooler and more refreshing. Out of nowhere, Chubby mom suddenly struck a pose in front of the fountain — without saying a word! Haha.
![]() |
![]() |
On the side of the fountain facing the sea, there was a seagull statue and a heart-shaped swing. Looking out at the wide-open sea made us feel completely refreshed and free. Not missing a moment, Chubby mom ran straight to the heart swing, struck a pose, and her daughter happily took the photo!
![]() |
![]() |
But honestly, Daecheon Beach felt so different from Muchangpo Beach — the waves were powerful and energetic! Lots of young people were playing in the water, splashing around, and having a blast. So jealous… youth is amazing…
And here’s a fun moment: the second Chubby mom and Dad tried to take a photo, a seagull suddenly flew into the frame, so it got captured in the shot too! Thank you, Maggie!

Excellent Service at Daecheon Port Fish Market
After exploring Daecheon Beach, we headed to Daecheon Port Fish Market. Of course, being by the sea, we had to enjoy some fresh raw fish! The market has a ton of shops, but Chubby mom’s family visited Useong Fisheries and Suyeonho Fisheries.
![]() |
![]() |
Interestingly, the owners of Suyeonho Fisheries and Useong Fisheries were actually a married couple! So no matter which shop you visit, both of them are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Everything looked so fresh, delicious, and sizable that we really didn’t know what to choose. And the lobsters… wow, they were huge — seriously impressive!

After some deliberation, Chubby mom’s family asked the owners for a recommendation, and they suggested… sea bass! They said it was in season and a must-try. So they took a huge sea bass straight from the tank, weighed it, and immediately prepared it as sashimi for us.
Chubby mom’s daughter also wanted to try steamed clams and conch, so we bought a little of those too. But the owners went above and beyond, giving us gifts of gizzard shad, shrimp, blue crab, sea cucumber, and sea squirts, and even prepared and packed ingredients for spicy fish stew (maeuntang). Truly amazing service!
If you’re planning to visit Daecheon Port Fish Market, we highly recommend Suyeonho Fisheries and Useong Fisheries — the service is top-notch and the owners are incredibly friendly.
Hearty Dinner and a Stunning Sunset
After buying dinner ingredients at Daecheon Port Fish Market, Chubby mom’s family returned to Beache Palace. We quickly set the table and dug in! The clams and conch were steamed right away, and the sashimi was laid out, so we were able to enjoy a delicious meal in no time.
The sea bass was a first for us, and whether it was because it was in season, super fresh, or both — haha — it was incredibly tasty, chewy, and flavorful. We also thoroughly enjoyed the gizzard shad, sea squirts, and sea cucumber that the owners had given us as a gift. I forgot to take photos, but we even had a hearty serving of spicy fish stew (maeuntang) — it was absolutely satisfying.

While we were having dinner, the sunset was so breathtaking that we ran straight to the veranda to take photos. No wonder Beache Palace is known as a sunset hotspot — the view was truly spectacular. Enjoying such a beautiful scene while having a delicious dinner made for a wonderfully happy second day.

And that wraps up Day 2 of our trip to Boryeong, Daecheon, and Muchangpo in Chungnam. Next time, I’ll share the story of Day 3! I hope this post is helpful for anyone planning a domestic trip to Boryeong, Daecheon, or Muchangpo.
