Ta-da!
Today, I’d like to introduce a special raw perilla oil, also known as extra virgin perilla oil, which I received as a gift from Chubby mom’s eldest daughter.
Unlike regular perilla oil, this one is made differently—minimizing nutrient loss and retaining more of the good stuff! It's a healthier, more nutritious version of perilla oil!!
Let’s dive in! (Bbu-bbu-bbu-bbu~ 🎺)
(Bought with my own money, genuine review, not an ad)

Ta-da...
Before we get started, let me first explain—what exactly raw perilla oil is!!
What is Raw Perilla Oil?
Raw perilla oil refers to cold-pressed perilla oil made by pressing perilla seeds at low temperatures. Since no heat is applied during the process, it better preserves the oil’s nutrients, aroma, and flavor.
Key Features of Raw Perilla Oil
- Ingredient: Perilla seeds (from the mint family of plants)
- Production Method: Cold-pressed at low temperatures to minimize nutrient loss
- Taste & Aroma: Rich, nutty, and retains the deep, distinctive flavor of perilla
Nutritional Benefits
- Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids (alpha-linolenic acid), which support cardiovascular health
- Contains antioxidants and vitamin E
- May help reduce inflammation and support brain and skin health
How to Use It
- Best used at the final stage of cooking, or as a salad dressing, in seasoned vegetables, or sauces
- Not suitable for high-heat cooking due to its low smoke point
As explained above, raw perilla oil is extracted from perilla seeds using a cold-press (low-temperature press) method, with no heat applied! That means it retains as many nutrients as possible—especially those that can be destroyed by heat. It’s an oil packed with nutrition!
But wait a second...!!
Then what’s the actual difference between regular perilla oil and raw perilla oil?
Suddenly curious, Chubby mom’s daughter did some research!!

The Difference Between Regular Perilla Oil and Raw Perilla Oil
| Category | Regular Perilla Oil | Raw Perilla Oil (Cold-Pressed) |
| Production Process | Made by roasting perilla seeds before pressing | Made by cold-pressing raw (unroasted) perilla seeds |
| Color & Aroma | Dark brown color, rich and deep nutty aroma | Light yellow color, fresh and subtle aroma |
| Taste | Toasty and intense flavor | Milder, cleaner, and more delicate taste |
| Nutritional Value | Some nutrients may be lost during roasting | Nutrients are better preserved |
| Usage | Commonly used in traditional Korean cooking | Often used in salads, raw dishes, and health-conscious meals |
Ta-da-da-daan!!
So, to summarize:
Regular perilla oil is made by roasting the seeds before pressing, which gives it a rich, nutty flavor and aroma.
On the other hand, raw perilla oil is cold-pressed from unroasted seeds, resulting in a lighter, fresher taste and aroma.
And most importantly—raw perilla oil retains more nutrients!
(Love it, love it—absolutely love it...! 😄)
Ta-da!
Here’s a photo of the raw perilla oil from Ann Oil (the company’s name is Ann Oil, but they label it as NO.1, so I thought it meant “Number One”… haha! Such a clever idea, I was surprised!).
For Chubby mom’s health-conscious family, this gift couldn’t be more perfect!!! 😭
(I absolutely love gifts like this.)
Chubby mom’s eldest daughter bought the raw perilla oil online, and a 300ml bottle costs between 23,000 and 30,000 KRW.

When you open the outer packaging, you’ll see the sleek bottle of raw perilla oil inside. It clearly states that it’s cold-pressed and made from 100% domestically grown perilla seeds, dried and pressed to create a premium oil!
The bottle design is so elegant that at first, when I received it, I even wondered if it was balsamic vinegar.
And one 300ml bottle contains a whopping 2,700 kcal! Ta-da-da-dung!

This is the back side of the bottle!
As expected, the back clearly shows detailed information such as ingredients and storage instructions. It says to store at room temperature, and the expiration date is about 8 months from the pressing date. However, as the instructions note, once opened, it should be refrigerated and consumed as soon as possible (important, important!).
Interestingly, the recommended daily intake for perilla oil is listed as 5 grams! Looks like you shouldn’t consume too much... 😢😢

Just as Chubby mom’s family had finished all their perilla oil and bought a new bottle, they decided to start with this one—the raw perilla oil!
The cap is sealed with a protective wrapping like this, and if you tear it along the dotted line, it comes off smoothly and easily.

Interestingly, the cap doesn’t open by twisting like regular bottles or snapping open like most perilla oil bottles. Instead, just like a cork stopper, you pull it straight up vertically to open and close it!
So cool and unique… (It kind of looks more fancy because of that!!)

Now, here’s the raw perilla oil poured onto a spoon…!!
Since it was Chubby mom’s family’s first time trying raw perilla oil, they found it super fascinating…!!!
Compared to regular perilla oil, the color was a lighter yellow and the aroma was milder. Because no heat was applied, it didn’t have that strong, toasty scent typical of perilla oil! Instead, the scent didn’t spread much and smelled fresher in a way…

Since the color was hard to see well on the spoon because of its color, I poured the oil onto a white plate…!!
The photo looks a bit dark, but the oil is actually a brighter yellow than it appears here.
Because of its light color, it looks even fresher and cleaner!
While the rich, toasty flavor and strong aroma of regular perilla oil can’t be beaten, Chubby mom’s family is happy with the fresh, mild, and healthy taste unique to raw perilla oil!
(They’ve always been health food enthusiasts anyway.)

To make it easy to remember that the oil should be consumed quickly after opening, Ann Oil thoughtfully included this sticker, and as soon as Chubby mom’s daughter opened it, she firmly stuck it right on the bottle!! (Hehe, we’ll make sure to finish it quickly…)
Oh, and as everyone probably knows, perilla oil has a low smoke point, so it’s not suitable for high-heat cooking! It should be used in low-temperature dishes instead.
Chubby mom’s family plans to drizzle it on bibimbap, seasoned vegetables, kimbap, and salads (yum yum)!

And once again… I really love how sleek and straight the bottle itself is—it looks so stylish and sophisticated!
If you and your family care about health like Chubby mom’s family, I highly recommend trying perilla oil that’s rich in Omega-3, antioxidants, and vitamin E, and preserves nutrients better.
Give it a try! (Let’s all get healthier together…)

And with that, I wrap up today’s post.
Take care of your health and look after yourselves well!!!
That’s all for now… Chup chup!
